Photo essay - Cape Kidnappers' gannet colony

Isn't it often the case that you don't explore the opportunities and activities in your own back yard?  You leave that to the tourists!

Hosting exchange students and homeschooling opens your eyes to what there is to see and do.

So after years of living in the Hawkes Bay, we took advantage of a discount deal and did a Cape Kidnappers trip.

Our memories of the trip are sore bottoms and getting wet from the tractor ride, the amazing fissures showing the tectonic plate movement in the cliffs, the narrow and not-so-safe-feeling walking track up to see the main gannet colony, and the stench!
